A technical number-line diagram applying a minus-one virtual adjustment before comparison

Guide 03 / adjustment

Adjust first. Compare second.

A handicap modifies the score for settlement purposes. The sign, line, named side and market format are all essential inputs.

The adjustment is virtual

The actual match score does not change. The stated handicap is applied only to the settlement comparison for that market.

Minus sign

Subtract the stated line from the named side.

Plus sign

Add the stated line to the named side.

Format changes the possible result

Three-way handicap

The adjusted result can include a draw selection.

Two-way handicap

Rules may include a push, split outcome or another stated treatment.

“Handicap” is a family name, not a complete rule. Do not transfer one format’s settlement logic to another.

A limited example

Illustration only: subtract one virtual goal from the home score.

If the input score is 2–0, the adjusted comparison is 1–0. Whether the selection wins, pushes or maps to a three-way result depends on the market format.

Before settlement

Confirm the market period, line, named side and treatment of equality. Those details belong to the specific platform’s rules.
